Show That You Care by Using Dual Flush Toilets

A brief knowledge of the working of the flush is essential to grasp this article properly. Water is stored inside a tank through the input section. A float is connected to a lever that controls the flow of water inside the tank. When the level of water has reached a pre-determined level, a plug at the end of the lever block the opening through which water flows into the tank. A `S' shaped pipe is fixed at the bottom of the tank with one end of the same used to draw water from the tank and the other end used to discharge that water into the toilet.
The vacuum created in the `S' pipe ensures that all water is removed from the tank before the refilling process is started again. The dual flush toilets also work on the same principle, the only difference being that they contain two water storage tanks. One of them stores a greater volume of water and the other a smaller. Both of them are independent of each other as far as input and output of water is concerned. When one needs to discharge just a small amount of water, like after urinating, the lever attached to the small tank is depressed.
The lever attached to the larger tank is used for releasing larger volumes of water, like after defecating. It is a well known fact that the average human urinates many more times a day, compared to defecating. By using the dual flush toilets, a significant saving can be made on the amount of water used to flush the toilet.
