Tub Shower Faucet

We have installed a new tub/shower kit and the shower runs when the faucet runs?
when we try to run water from the faucet for a bath the shower head runs water too. The faucet does not run when the shower button is pulled to run for the shower only. But the shower runs at the same time when running for bath only
It sounds like the diverter that is in the tub spout is sticking partially closed, thus forcing water to come out of the shower head. Try removing the spout and seeing if you can free it up. While you have it off, turn on the water gently, does water come out of the shower head? If so, it sounds like it is plumbed wrong.
