How to Install A Toilet in Your Home

What You Will Need:

-Toilet Bowl

-Toilet Tank

-Toilet Seat

-1 Wax Ring

-1 Set of Closet Bolts

-1 Toilet Supply Line

-1 Wrench Set

 

Installing A Toilet

Step 1: Prepare Your Work Area

Be sure to have your toilet bowl, toilet tank, and toilet seat unpackaged and prepared for installation. Be careful not to lose any bolts or parts when doing this. Make sure the area around the toilet flange is clear of debris and the flange itself is in good shape. If your area is prepped, go ahead in slide your toilet bolts into the slots on either side of the flange. Make sure they are even with each other so that the toilet will sit straight. Then, place the wax onto the flange over the drain.

Step 2: Setting The Bowl

With your area now prepped for your toilet bowl, It's time to set it. Take the toilet bowl and carefully set it onto the flange so that the toilet bolts you put in place earlier go through the holes on either side of the toilet bowl. When the bowl is straight, push down with your weight, sealing the toilet with the flange with the wax ring. *Careful not to pull up on the toilet after. It will break the wax seal and create toilet leaks. With the bowl down over the bolts and the wax ring sealed, place the cap washers, washers, and nuts onto the toilet bolts. Tighten each side a few turns at a time to prevent cracking the bowl. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE BOWL. IT WILL CRACK. You will know it is tight enough when the bowl has no movement in it. Pop on the toilet bolt caps and the bowl is set.

Step 3: Attaching The Tank

Your bowl is good and solid and now it's time to set the tank. The tank comes with a black rubber gasket. Sometimes the gasket is already on, sometimes it's not. If it is not, slip the black rubber gasket onto the bottom of the tank over the big opening. Set the tank onto the bowl, with the black gasket settling into the hole on the back of the bowl. Slide the provided tank bolts and rubber washers down into the tank, through the holes, coming out the bottom, through the bowl. Slide on the metal washers and nuts. Tight each side a little at a time to prevent the tank from leaning to one side or cracking. Once there is no movement in the tank, it is tight enough. Put on the tank lid, and your toilet tank is installed.

Step 4: Mounting the Toilet Seat and Connecting the Water Supply

Set the toilet seat onto the toilet. Put the provided seat bolts through the holes in the seat and through the holes on the bowl. Apply the nuts and tighten until it's snug.

Attach the supply line to the water inlet on the left side, on the bottom of the toilet tank. Tighten the other end of the supply line to the water supply stop. Do not over tighten. Cut the water back on at the stop and check for leaks around the stop, the supply line connections, the tank to bowl connections, and the bowl to floor seal.
