Agreed - there are some women, but one good example hardly constitutes a good representation of strong women.
As for 'playing the misogyny card' - it's more perception than stereotype. Hip hop created for mass consumption, hip pop if you will, perpetuates some very negative images of women, with both men and women at the helm. I suppose my wonderment lies more in why can't our society break out of mainstream 'unethicalness'; why is consciousness and strong belief an underground phenomenon?

umm i dont really agree with you playing the 'misogyny' card, thats kind of a stereotype.....A vast majority of mainstream rappers; trina, lil kim, etc. refer to themselves as b*tches and hoes, so no, women are not well represented in the industry..Is there room for strong women in the hip hop world? yes there is, but whenever they get some shine, they go off the wall....example: lauryn hill....jean grae is a talented female lyricist, however she has alot of internet hype but isnt moving units, same could be said about alot of talented female MC's...but what can you do when you have girls aged 13-16 who would rather listen to a rapper talk about how he bust his guns rather then listening to a female rapper with a legit message?
